Nociceptor — high-threshold pain receptor neuron.

Only fires above noxious threshold. Sensitisation: repeated stimulation lowers threshold (hyperalgesia). TTX-resistant Na+ channels provide slow, broad APs.

Based on Basbaum et al. 2009 / Gold & Gebhart 2010.
